the crucible
Ted talk #6
In the Crucible, people are deceived by the lies and untrue stories that are being told by children. As an audience, we clearly see that Abigail, the man root cause and blame for the hysteria and outbreak of witchcraft. However, everyone in the play seems to believe her and everything she says or does. So in this Ted talk, Kang Lee talks about children lying, an how you spot them. Lee admits that not even professional judges and police officers can detect when kids are lying. He says that kids faces are neutral when they lie, seeming like they are telling the truth. Now even though Abigail is older, she is referred to as child many times. Every time she lies, she acts calmly unless she is truly passionate about the lie. Even Betty, when she wakes from her "sleep" she starts spitting out names, in seemingly no emotion, which indicating she could probably be lying, at least on Lee's ideas.
